As we all know, Python is a pretty deep story while tcl is getting kind of fat by now… (ooops).

Also I’m not really surprised that the plugin_builder is a complicated story but the xml-section does not look very intimidating at all!

Even before this country was mapped, we new it existed and that it was big. Now we can clearly see that it truly is huge. Spreading from South to East it is the place where You can travel from a simple place like “C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe”  to the very far, far away and exotic:

(Ironically You end up in the city “adobe” – same name as Your starting point).

This region is close to anarchy. Jumping between left and right it will probably collapse in the nearby future. Windows, Microsoft, Apple and Yahoo scattered all over the place…

• Novell claimed that Microsoft was blocking competitors out of the market through anti-competitive practice.
• Sun Microsystems complained about the lack of disclosure of some of the interfaces to Windows NT.
• EU ordered the company to offer both a version of Windows without Windows Media Player and the information necessary for competing networking software to interact fully with Windows desktops and servers.

Deja Vu anyone? I am thinking of Steve Jobs blocking of Flash. It certainly is, wonderfully ironic, that Steve is dancing around the same European fire as Bill. (Meaning the European Commission and not that Volcano on Iceland).

Personally I think Steve is so right in hanging on to proprietary operating systems. The word “proprietary” is not always a bad word. “Proprietary” is necessary for the development of cutting edge technology like iPhones and iPads. You just can’t sit around and wait for someone to define the standards for You. Now, Android is great, but admit it… Steve was years ahead of that.

Even if I would enjoy the choice of what to run on all my iThings, I also accept that they are proprietary due to their brilliance.

But what if the European Commission are not that forgiving to yet another Denietary system? Oh the iRony…

Those who now me probably now about the FME art stuff. Today I felt like paying the latest Volcano business some attention. I fired up FME Workbench (and probably failed miserably):

FME-users can now try the OSM extractor also with Openaddress-data.

If You are unfamiliar with how the OSM extractor details You can read about it in our Nov 2009 post:  FME for Open Street Map

In short:

1.Start with http://bbox.me/osm and locate a place for extraction of address points.

2. Select “Openadress.org FME” for workspace.

3. Download the workspace and open it with FME Workbench.

4. When You run the workbench FME will call the OpenAddresses.org Webservices and retrieve the addresses (max 500 by default. This can be changed with some FME-knowledge but don’t overload the Webservice):

Basically it lists the OSM trackpoints uploaded in the current bbox. (Well, it lists 5000 points at the time.)

My hope (and guess) is that it lists the most recent tracks. That would possibly make some interesting uses of it.
